3 things for March 17, 2016

  • My failure to keep my dog’s rabies vaccine up to date may prevent him going to Singapore this summer.
  • Had a minor family moment when the Eminent Child showed up ready for school with a bunch of foundation on. No makeup yet!
  • Finally warming up. Might have a fire this weekend.

3 things for Thursday March 10, 2016

  • Friday’s procedure resulted in sudden bruises on Tuesday. PURPLE SURPRISE!
  • I hate being sick, even though spending a day at home alone is kind of nice.  But would absolutely prefer to be working.  I love my job!
  • Speaking of which, I’ve got just over 2 months left here.  Moving to Singapore is going to be a logistical challenge for the pets: mandatory 30 day quarantine.  WTF Singapore?

3 Things for Sunday March 6, 2016

  • Post-op recovery was a breeze.  Couldn’t have gone better.  Did use it as an excuse to sit in front of the XBox for a couple days though.
  • It’s very warm here suddenly.  Hopefully spring is here to stay
  • Started watching a new show, The Expanse.  Based on the first 4 episodes, it’s highly recommended.

Three things for Friday, March 4, 2016

3 Things for Thursday, March 3, 2016

  • No one reads this any more but I’m still announcing that I got assigned to Singapore! I had a DC assignment but Singapore emailed on Monday to see if I was available for a newly opened job and I was able to amicably break my DC assignment and accept the offer!  woot!
  • Good article on how to deal with terrorism.  I’m not sure if this has become a common perspective, it’s definitely more common that 15 years ago when I was studying terrorism.
  • I’m slashing and burning weight for this move.  Not technically, but I’m aiming to get rid of may 2/3 of my books.

Three Things for Tuesday, March 1, 2016

  • Life is like Tetris, not chess.  I don’t think I posted this yet.  Chess is obviously a better game but I like the metaphors of this article.
  • Exercising core muscles is a great way to improve posture.
  • I took some pictures of my friends’ band last Friday.  The whole set is here. DSC_2909.jpg DSC_3015-Edit.jpg DSC_2919.jpg DSC_2929-Edit.jpg DSC_2938-Edit.jpg

Three Things for Monday, February 29, 2016

  • Interesting AMA on the Foreign Service.  A lot of good info there, but it’s also a jaded perspective of someone who is getting out.  FS Life isn’t easy, in spite of all the awesomeness associated with it.
  • This job is nuts.  I got an email today that had me literally screaming and shaking in the office.  I’ll share details later after all the fallout hits the ground.
  • Tomorrow is a national holiday and the Eminent Child has three friends coming over. I’ll make pizza for them.

Three things for Sunday February 28, 2016

  • Funny how missing one day in a routine can utterly destroy it.  Had a good week of work, family, and life.  The Eminent Child is baby tonight.  Friends have heard about my allowance system and they wanted to support the E.C.’s financial responsibility and growth.  She spends a lot of time with this family anyway and its a great gesture and excellent opportunity for her to get some babysitting experience.
  • Sold Girl Scout Cookies with the Eminent Child today.  She and the other two young girls really worked the crowd.  They are not allowed to campaign or canvas overseas and are just limited to publicly tables where they can sell the cookies.  We were at the commissary and sold out the LAST of this year’s cookies.
  • Snowed a lot today, unexpectedly.

3 Things For Sunday February 21, 2016

  • Initially planned to go sledding with some friends.  The Child slept at their house Saturday night and I joined for breakfast, but as it took longer than expected to make and consume breakfast and the kids started playing, we ended up cancelling the sledding and just spent the day together.  Deli sandwiches for lunch, dominoes in the afternoon, and then Korean bbq for dinner.  Great day!
  • The EC and the other daughter made popsicle stick birdhouses, then came back to our house to use the sewing machine to make cushions.  Pretty cool to see them so capable.
  • We have 18 weekends left before we depart and already have stuff planned for at least one day of every weekend into April.  Time is going to FLY.

3 things for Wednesday February 17, 2016

  • Had a great weekend skiing with the E.C. and E.S. Saturday was warm and slushy but great conditions for learning, was a lot of fun. Sunday was solid ice, they didn't even go out, choosing the spend the day in the hot tubs instead. Monday dawned beautiful with several inches of new snow so we boarded the morning in fantastic groomed runs with fresh snow and empty slopes.
  • The Eminent Sister departed Seoul for home today. She got to meet up with a friend from high school who is stationed here on Monday after we got back, then she went to the DMZ Tuesday. I wasn't feeling well and stayed home alone. Made a killer pasta for dinner.
  • Made meat pies, curry, and BLT tonight. Meat pies are Mediterranean style, a practice run for Girl Scouts World Thinking Day – Egypt theme- on Saturday. Turned out great. I used this recipe and added allspice, nutmeg, and paprika to the beef (no lamb). Turned out great!! Would only use 1/2 cup pine nuts next time though.
